LIT CIRCLE PART 2
1) "Same as every other day. Woke up, felt like sh*t. Went to work, felt like sh*t."
This quote perfectly describes the character that Theo is. Theo was asked how he felt about the youngest person in the entire world killed in a bar fight. Effortlessly his response was "Same as every other day. Woke up, felt like sh*t. Went to work, felt like sh*t." Meanwhile everyone across the world is mourning the death of Baby Diego while Theo on the other hand could care less. "Well that was even worse, everybody crying. I mean... Baby Diego? Come on, the guy was a wanker!" To him, Baby Diego is just another person in this cold world. He thought of him as rubbish individual and a celebrity with no means. He was just another human being to Theo and his death couldn’t affect him less. Walking into work the same morning, carelessly he uses the advantage of Baby Diego’s death to take the rest of the day off.
2) "Your baby is the miracle the whole world has been waiting for."
Although Theo could care less about anybody else besides family, this quote reveals the change that Theo underwent throughout the book. The constant warfare between illegal immigrants and the totalitarian government did not affect Theo therefore he had no interest in the warfare. He didn’t know what was actually happening to the illegal immigrants until he was on the race to save humanity. Entering the refugee camps completely changed Theo’s perspective on the government and the world. He had a mission and that was to save mankind from facing its own extinction by making sure Kee gets on that boat. All that Theo witnessed as a British Citizen living a regular life and before entering the refugee camp, were illegal immigrants thrown in buses waiting to be deported. He had no idea what was really going on behind the scenes. The constant deaths and warfare between the totalitarian government and the illegal immigrants was something that Theo faced first hand. The government was just another wanker to him now that he witnessed the truth. Innocent civilians were being shot at and killed just because they are non-British citizens. This quote clearly shows that Theo is not another careless British individual living his regular life while counting down the years he has left. He risks his own life to save the human race by guiding Kee and her baby to the Human Project, regardless of her race or ethnicity.

Theo Faron is the reason why life the voice of children can now be heard 25 years later after the infertility rate in women rose indefinitely in 2002. He risked his life to save the human race from an unforeseen extinction. Theo was a regular person just like everyone else, counting down the days he has left on this earth. The moment he saw the baby come out of Kee’s womb, his entire perception on life had changed. He was committed to get Kee on the Human Project. This license plate perfectly reflects Theo as the protagonist throughout Children of Men. The background has a distinct meaning with a very powerful term engraved on top. Theo is the saviour of this world, battling through constant warfare, risking his life, and committing himself to save mankind even if it means to enter a refugee camp that ensures certain death. He is the god of our world; ensuring life on this planet will still exist.

LIT CIRCLE PART 1
Quote 1)
"After escaping the worst atrocities and making it to England, our government hunts them down like cockroaches"
Jasper about the immigrants.
The quotation said by Jasper was revealing more than just the setting of the novel. Jasper was talking about the totalitarian and fascist government that is hunting down and killing illegal immigrants that have entered the country of England. The immigrants are rounded up like animals and thrown in cages, waiting to be deported. He is also alluding to the future of where an immigrant who is the only pregnant person in the entire world is almost thrown in. This quote has a huge effect on the protagonist Theo because as he finds Kee, his entire life changes. He is in complete danger because Kee is more valuable than anything in the world and everyone wants a piece of her. At first, Theo wanted to make her pregnancy public, but he was convinced that the world was not ready for her pregnancy because of the constant warfare and the killing and deportation of innocent immigrants. Militia groups would use her to unite illegal immigrants for a militaristic revolt against the government. Most immigrants are eager and willing to do anything to get a hand on the girl because they could be rewarded for bringing her in, instead of being deported or killed by the government. Kee could completely turn the world around as 25 years of research of infertility could not.
Quote 2)
“The streets of Britain are no more different than the militarized battleground of Iraq”
News reporter about Britain today
The quote was said by a news reporter on the State Radio Service after a bomb had exploded in a café filled with peaceful civilians and the last human being to be born on earth was killed in a pub brawl. The meaning behind this quote was that the news reporter was comparing Britain to the constant warfare that occurs in Iraq. The military control, security zones and refugee camps make Britain and Iraq no different from each other. Theo had nearly escaped from the bomb that had exploded in the cafe and the near death experience was not the last for Theo His endless efforts of saving Kee nearly cost him his life many times. Theo is impacted greatly by this quote since every wear he goes he is on an active battleground where the hope for humanity could completely be lost in a matter of seconds if Kee and her baby are killed.
Object 1) The boat
The boat reveals the setting and was extremely essential and crucial to the storyline of the book. Theo and Kee were on a mission to find a boat that could lead them to the Human Project headquarters which is located on a ship in the middle of the sea. Extremely cold and wet conditions only made it worse for Theo as he was trying to survive longer in order for Kee to make it onto the ship. Kee’s emotions were pouring out as Theo had slowly passed away. The setting of this scene evokes pure emotion and distress. The boat is their only chance of saving humanity, and without the boat, the hope for humanity is lost and mankind would slowly face its own extinction.
Object 2) Guns
To be able to have access to guns almost signifies complete domination as they are extremely powerful. Guns are the only thing that keeps Britain a functioning state. Just by aiming down the iron sights at innocent civilians allows you to have complete control over them. Britain is the only functioning state and all illegal immigrants are threatened or sometimes killed if they refuse to enter refugee camps. The constant fear of being killed by a gun provides the government to be able to keep Britain a function state and to ensure control of the country, as well as total supremacy.
Object 3) Bombs
The use of bombs throughout the storyline shows the setting by describing the atmosphere, occupations, and daily manner of living of the characters. Theo was nearly blown up seconds later after leaving a coffee shop before heading to work. There has already been 2 bombs exploding during that month and for this to be the third, Theo is traumatized and the Fishes are furious because they had no connection with the bomb. British civilians are already mourning the death of Baby Diego, and for another bomb to explode, the people don’t know what to expect next. They are in complete fear and are more alert than ever to report suspicious activities and terrorist groups like the Fishes.
Object 4) Technology
Technology is extensively used everywhere in the country. Since the story takes place in the future of 2027, technology is much more advantageous and convenient. The government uses electrical dashboards to distribute messages to the public. Reporting illegal immigrants and suspicious activities are widely broadcasted on televisions, electrical dashboards, smart watches, navigation panels inside of cars, and much more. Technology in homes is more innovative and useful to the extent where televisions are now personal day planners and alarm clocks. They tell you when to wake up, what the weather is like that day, what’s on your schedule, and also deliver ground breaking news in an instant. The advanced technology shows the time period in which the action takes place and the general environment where homes are more secure and safety is not an issue.
